Every air-core reactor starts with the preparation of the “winding mandrel”—a reusable form that acts as the coil’s skeleton. Our setup specialists manage these preparations between runs, meeting unique specifications for every single unit. At COIL Innovation, every reactor is a bespoke piece of engineering.
Step 2: Winding
In the second stage, aluminum cables are wound with high precision around the mandrel. What sets us apart is our patented winding technology, ensuring maximum efficiency and reliability. The deep technical know-how of our operators ensures a seamless workflow for every custom-built reactor, from start to finish.
Step 3: Impregnation
Stability meets durability. In this step, the coil is completely coated in epoxy resin and cured at over 100 °C to withstand the harshest conditions. Our specialists monitor this process with precision and expertise, ensuring that every unit meets our rigorous quality standards. At COIL, impregnation is more than just a process—it’s a guarantee of excellence.

How can I, as a layperson, imagine COIL products?
Dr. Alexander Gaun explains:
“Imagine the small, inconspicuous component inside a water tap that ensures water flows evenly and filters out small particles such as lime or dirt. Without it, the water would spray uncontrollably — everything would run wild and unregulated.
Air-core reactors in electrical grids work in a similar way: they limit sudden current changes, bring the flow of electricity to a defined, stable level, and keep the voltage within safe limits. This ensures that the electrical grid remains stable, protected and reliable — even when unexpected fluctuations occur.

COIL Innovation’s shunt reactors are used to compensate for capacitive reactive power generated by lightly loaded transmission lines or underground cables. They can be connected to the transformer’s tertiary winding or directly to the high-voltage (HV) bus or transmission line, supporting system voltages up to 550 kV.
Filter Reactors:
Harmonic filter reactors are used in combination with capacitors and resistors to form filter circuits that reduce the harmonic content in power supply systems. Capacitor damping or inrush current limiting reactors are installed in series with the capacitor bank, while discharge reactors are connected to the bypass circuit.
Current Limiting Reactors:
Current limiting reactors are required to restrict short-circuit currents to levels compatible with the capability of other system components. Our product range includes applications for load flow control, load balancing, and bus-tie coupling. These reactors can be installed for the highest system voltages (up to 765 kV AC). COIL Innovation also supplies neutral grounding reactors, which are connected between the transmission grid’s neutral point and earth to limit line-to-ground fault currents.
TCR Reactors:
The application of Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) involves various types of reactors: Thyristor-Controlled Reactors (TCR), Thyristor-Switched Reactors (TSR), Thyristor-Switched Capacitor Reactors (TSC), Thyristor-Controlled Series Capacitor Reactors (TCSC), and Mechanically Switched Reactors (MSR).
Line Traps:
Power Line Carrier (PLC) technology is a traditional, cost-effective, and reliable method of utilizing power supply systems for communication purposes. Connected in series with the transmission line, Line Traps exhibit low impedance at the power frequency and high impedance at signal transmission frequencies (30 kHz – 500 kHz). The international sales of Line Traps manufactured by COIL Innovation are handled by the Spanish-based company ARTECHE, which holds an exclusive agreement with COIL Innovation for a major part of the international market.
